Duckbert nested under my window the day I landed in Vancouver, and her babies hatched and waddled off to the lake a month later- the day this blog launched! So this first post is dedicated to her.
My family has always joked that I’m the Disney princess Snow White, because wild animals come to find me. (Yes I also have dark hair, like apples, can be a bit gullible when people are kind, and sing in a squeaky soprano voice. I also love to sleep, but that’s beside the point.)
This May 2024, I voyaged to Vancouver for a three week trip of rest and recuperation with my family. The past few years have been utterly exhausting for various reasons including three years of HK lockdown during the pandemic, and my health being wobbly for a few years before that (which you can see more about in my physical journey & mental health posts on my instagram (warning : it was a challenging few mental health years!!)
I’ve had to be offline treading water, but when my beloved aunt suddenly passed away in September 2023, I strongly felt it was time to gather my things and return back to life. Specifically, my life in media and modelling work, which is my calling / metier / arete peak existence zone… what I’m meant to be doing, essentially.
ARETE means a pursuit of excellence in order to fulfill one’s purpose. Arete is living up to one’s potential. I have it tattooed on my wrist.
I got to work cleaning up my mind and body (gently and kindly) and am happy to report that I’m feeling good! Slowly, slowly I’m laying the groundwork this year for a healthy and sustainable return to the work I’d like to for the rest of my life, and this blog will be a fun part of it.
So in summary, all hail Queen Duckbert! She was one of many Vancouver serendipities cheering me back towards media and sparkling to light the path ahead.
Thank you for joining, for reading this, and for intersecting with my small corner of the universe for little glimmers of happiness, personal progress and love.
If you’re here, you must be at an important next step of your journey too.
Trust your instincts, take the leap, you know what you have to do.
I’m glad we’re here together.
